Your first week

The order to set things up in, from connecting Stripe to sharing your first donation page.

You don't have to do all of this on day one, but this order gets you to your first online gift fastest, with nothing to redo later. Each step links to a full article.

Before you start

Occam creates each organization and invites its owner by email. There's no self-serve signup, so if you need another organization set up, email info@occam.gives.

Follow the link in your invitation to sign in. If Occam left your organization's name and web address for you to choose, you'll do that first. See Finish setting up your organization.

Your launch path

  1. Connect Stripe. Nobody can pay you online until you do. In the sidebar, go to Settings and select Connect with Stripe. See Connect Stripe.
  2. Set up your brand. Add your logo, colors and tagline so your pages look like you. In the sidebar, go to Brand kit. See Set up your brand.
  3. Add your receipt details. Add your EIN so it prints on donors' receipts, and your mailing address, which every email you send to supporters must carry. Both are in Settings. See Get your receipts right and Email footer and mailing address.
  4. Create your first campaign. In the sidebar, go to Campaigns and select New Campaign. Each campaign gets its own donation page. See Create a donation campaign.
  5. Share it. Send people to your public page, which lists every active campaign, or straight to the campaign's own page. If you have a website, link to them from it. See Your public page.
  6. Invite your team. In the sidebar, go to Team, and choose whether each person is an admin or staff. See Invite your team.
  7. Import your history. Bring in your donor list first, then past gifts, so totals and reports are complete from the start. In the sidebar, go to Import Data. See Importing: how it works.

The checklist on your Overview page tracks several of these steps and ticks each one off by itself. See The getting-started checklist.

Good to know

  • Steps 1 to 3, 6 and 7 need an owner or admin. Anyone on your team can create a campaign.
  • Turn off the tools you won't use, so the sidebar shows only what your team needs. See Turn tools on and off.
  • For a tour of the dashboard, see How Occam works.
