Sign in to Occam

How sign-in links work, and what to do when one doesn't arrive or doesn't work.

Occam doesn't use passwords. You ask for a sign-in link, we email it to you, and opening it signs you in.

  1. Go to occam.gives and select Sign in at the top of the page.
  2. Enter your email address and select Email me a sign-in link.
  3. Open the email and select the link. Do this on the same device, in the same browser, where you asked for it.
  4. You land in your organization. If you belong to more than one, you'll see Your Organizations, where you pick one.

If you're an owner or admin and your organization requires two-step verification, you'll be asked for a code from your authenticator app next. See Set up two-step verification.

Use the same device and browser

A sign-in link only works in the browser that asked for it. If you ask for it on your laptop and open the email on your phone, it won't sign you in. Ask for the link from the browser you want to work in, then open the email on that same computer.

If the link doesn't work

When a link fails, Occam takes you back to the sign-in form. There's no error message. The usual reasons are:

  • You opened it in a different browser or on a different device.
  • It expired. Links stop working after a short time, so open them soon.
  • You asked for more than one. Only the newest link works.

Enter your address again, select Email me a sign-in link, and open the new email in the same browser.

If the email doesn't arrive

  • Check your spam or junk folder.
  • Check the address you typed, then ask for a new link.
  • If a message appears under the address box, it says what went wrong. Follow it, or wait a minute and try again.
  • Sign in with the address your invitation went to. Any other address signs you in to an account with no organization, and you'll see No organization yet.

Sign out or switch organizations

Both are at the bottom of the sidebar:

  • Switch org shows the organizations you belong to and any invitations waiting for you. If you belong to only one and nothing is waiting, it takes you back to it.
  • Sign out signs you out of Occam in this browser.

Good to know

  • There's no password to reset. If you can't get into your email account, your email provider or IT team has to fix that first.
  • On a shared computer, sign out when you're done.
