Occam has thirteen optional tools. If your organization doesn't run auctions or sell merch, turn those tools off and they disappear from the sidebar for your whole team. Turning a tool off never deletes anything: turn it back on and everything in it is exactly as you left it.
Turn a tool on or off
- In the sidebar, go to Settings.
- Find the Tools card.
- Flip the switch next to each tool you want to change.
- Select Save.
The sidebar changes for everyone on your team.
The tools
| Tool in Settings | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Events & ticketing | Events, with ticket sales and check-in |
| Silent auctions | Auctions |
| Memberships | Memberships and your join page |
| Pledges | Pledges |
| Peer-to-peer fundraising | Supporters' own fundraising pages for your campaigns. It has no sidebar item. |
| Merch store & point of sale | Store |
| Grants | Grants |
| Volunteers | Volunteers |
| SMS | SMS |
| Automations | Automations |
| Major-gift pipeline | Pipeline |
| Website builder | Website and Calendar |
These are always on and can't be turned off: Overview, My Tasks, Campaigns, Donors, Segments, everything under Insights, and the Admin group. Donation campaigns and their pages are always available.
What turning a tool off does
- Its items leave the sidebar. If someone follows an old link to one of its dashboard pages, they see a page saying the tool isn't turned on. Owners and admins get a Turn it on in Settings button there.
- Its public pages go offline. Visitors to your event, auction, store, join, volunteer, pledge or peer-to-peer pages see a page-not-found message instead, and those pages drop off your public page. With the Website builder off, your web address opens your public page instead of your website.
- Your records stay put. Donors, gifts, tickets and everything else the tool holds are kept.
Turning a tool off doesn't stop work that's already under way. Active automations keep sending, an auction that's still open still closes and charges its winners, and monthly memberships keep renewing. Pause your automations and close any open auction first if you want them to stop.
"Not available on this instance"
A tool listed under Not available on this instance isn't part of your organization's setup, so its switch is greyed out. Anyone who follows a link to it sees a page saying it isn't available.
To get one of these tools, email info@occam.gives. Once it's made available, it moves up into the main list, turned off. Switch it on and select Save.
Good to know
- Only owners and admins can change tools. Staff who open a turned-off tool are asked to have an admin turn it on.
