OccamEvery donation campaign has the same form. Knowing what's on it helps you answer donors' questions and decide what to say in your appeal.
What donors choose
- Select Amount: $25, $50, $100 or $250, or a Custom amount in whole dollars. The minimum gift is $1. You can't change the suggested amounts.
- Make this monthly: charges the same amount every month until the donor cancels. See Monthly giving.
- Cover processing fee: adds an estimate of the card fee to the gift, at Stripe's standard rate of 2.9% + 30¢ of the total charged. If you're on a nonprofit rate, you keep the difference. See Lower your payment fees. The Donate button shows the new total, and that total is what the receipt shows. On a monthly gift, it's added to every charge.
- First Name, Last Name and Email: all required. The receipt goes to this email address.
- Give anonymously: keeps the donor's name off the public Recent Donors list. You still see who they are in Occam.
- Make this gift in honor or memory of someone: the donor picks In Honor Of or In Memory Of, enters the honoree's name and can add a message. Occam doesn't notify the honoree, and tribute details aren't shown anywhere in your dashboard.
Paying
Donate takes donors to a secure Stripe page to pay by card, US bank account or Link. Card and Link payments are receipted straight away. Bank payments take a few business days to clear, and the receipt waits until they do. See What receipts donors get.
After they give
Donors come back to the campaign page with a thank-you message and an offer to Make an even bigger impact. Yes, make it monthly opens the form again with Make this monthly ticked. If they complete it, that starts a new monthly gift, charged right away. The one-time gift they made a moment earlier still stands, so they've given twice.
What's public
Anyone who opens the page sees:
- The amount raised, the goal, the percentage funded and the number of donors. These include anonymous gifts.
- Recent Donors: the 10 most recent gifts, each with the donor's first name and the amount. Anonymous gifts are left off the list. Monthly charges and gifts you record yourself appear here too.
Good to know
- The form only works while the campaign's status is Active, and only after you connect Stripe.
